Gallery of Ancient Cosmogonies.2021

As we read, studied and discussed ancient cosmogonies, from creation stories, to the Epic of Gilgamesh to the Popol Vuh, we responded critically and creatively. What follows is a gallery of our work and what we had to say about it.

Ancient Stories Reimagined

In response to a call to participate in the lineage of multimodal storytelling and translation, we re-imagined ancient stories for a modern audience.

I loved working with the Daughter of the Sun story in particular because it does have a slight dark side to it with the land of the dead and the murder of the sun but I was able to change the diction to make it more fitting with a childrens story. I really enjoyed creating my own script and tone of voice in my video to fit something more child appropriate. I also just really enjoyed the story of the daughter of the sun as a whole and found it very interesting that instead of the moon and sun having a romantic relationship like most stories with the moon being the husband and the sun being the wife, that it was a mother and daughter relationship.

Since I did my reimagined story as a childrens book I also thouroughly enjoyed Abby’s children’s podcast rendition. I really enjoyed the pictures she chose to represent each element of the story.
